The “ghost” village. There are no shops, hotels or restaurants to welcome you, only the town's ancient walls which loom over the breathtaking countryside. We drove up a winding dirt road that was not wider than 3 metres. No way two cars could pass…though not usually a problem as there is no traffic. Toiano has one street with just two rows of houses on each side, a deconsecrated church, and a tiny cemetery. It was eerie and beautiful at the same time.
