This beautiful city, our third residence, straddles the Arno river just before it empties into the Ligurian Sea. Although Pisa is known for its leaning tower (the bell tower of the city's cathedral), the city contains more than 20 other historic churches, several medieval palaces and various bridges across the Arno. It is also home of the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century. The leaning tower and cathedral are both beautiful and a wonder to behold. We walked along the top of the city wall taking in the incredible views of the surrounding hills and the city center. This is an alive and vibrant city!
